Safari Ostrich Farm is not only a tourist farm but are primarily a breeding commercial ostrich farm. This means that when one of our professional guides take you on a guided tour of Safari Ostrich Farm they will lead you through all aspects of ostrich farming from incubation to adulthood.
We have now come to the end of the current breeding season. Ostriches do not lay eggs the whole year round like chickens do. The last chicks for this season has hatched and have been placed with surrogate parents who will look after them until they are about 3 months old.
We will then separate them from the adult birds and place them in their own camp. These chicks who are now 2 days old can be seen by our visitors during the course of the guided tour. They grow very quickly and will be mature at 18 months of age. Adults ostriches weigh between 120 and 140kg when fully grown so you can imagine how quickly they get big.
You will be able to get close and personal to these cute little chicks whilst they are still under3 months of age on the guided tour
