Oudtshoorn is a beautiful little town situated between two majestic mountain ranges. Established originally to serve the surrounding farms with a trading “centre” it is still known for mainly ostrich, sheep and Lucerne farming.
Oudtshoorn is also one of the most popular tourist destinations in South Africa. One of the world’s greatest natural wonders, the Cango Caves, has been sculpted by nature for millions of years. The Cango Caves, which attracts about 200 000 visitors per year, offers a magical journey through subterranean caverns with fascinating limestone formations in a wide variety of colours.
Oudtshoorn is of course also the ostrich capitol of the world and with a few show farms open to the public for guided tours an interesting visit and close encounter with these remarkable and ancient birds are guaranteed. Safari Ostrich Show Farm is one of the ostrich farms that are open for visitors.
The ostrich show farms together with the Cango Caves both rate inside the top ten attractions in South Africa !!
Many of the most popular tourist attractions are situated in the Mother City (Cape Town) and considering how small Oudtshoorn is it is quite amazing to have 2 of the top ten attractions in our area.
With an annual rainfall of less than 250mm, Oudtshoorn is an ideal location for outdoor activities and there are many more fun things to do for visitors to this unique and charming town – the slogan: come for fun in the sun – applies well to this tourism hot Spot!
