Things To Do in Oudtshoorn

When driving to Oudtshoorn to visit Safari Ostrich Farm you will encounter many other great things to do in Oudtshoorn as well. Oudtshoorn just begs to be explored: architecture, art, wildlife, culture, history, and the amazing vegetation of the Klein Karoo combine to create a fascinating mix of attractions in one of South Africa’s best loved inland destinations.

Cango Caves

The Cango Caves is a cultural and natural landmark in South Africa. The 20 million year-old CangoCaves system consists of a series of hidden chambers cut deep into a thick limestone rock layer. The finest dripstone caverns with their vast halls and towering formation will take your breath away.

Swartberg Mountain Nature Reserve

The Swartberg Nature Reserve lies in the Oudtshoorn district between the Great and Klein Karoo, forming a narrow, but long, stretch of 121 000 hectares. The reserve is blessed with remarkably diverse vegetation.

C.P. Nel Museum

The town museum of Oudtshoorn reflects a late Victorian Colonial style of classical building, named after Charles Paul Nel – a collector of antiques. So valuable was his collection that by 1938 the collection had received full recognition from the Historical Monument Commission. One of the best country museums in South Africa it was declared a National Monument in 1980.

Meiringspoort

Soaring cliff walls with magnificent rock formations line the 25km gorge called Meiringspoort. The road through Meiringspoort is a feat of engineering but the main attraction is the jaw-dropping beauty of the poort as it winds its way through the Swartberg Mountains. Whilst driving this stunning route make sure to stop at the impressive Meiringspoort Waterfall.
